Coronavirus (COVID-19)

March 13, 2020

Dear Rollingwood Families,

The health and safety of all our children continues to be our first priority in the wake of the evolving pandemic around the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are writing today with a number of important updates for all children and families, including the latest information about ways to protect your health.

There are a number of actions we have taken and many things you can do to keep our community safe. The most important action you can take is to stay home if you are sick.

Our Preparations and Protocols

School Cleaning + Hygiene

We continue to stay up to date with the Virginia Department of Health and the CDC to ensure appropriate procedure is followed.

-  We perform daily deep cleaning, disinfecting surfaces with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)- approved cleaning disinfectant spray in each classroom.

-   We have adequate hygiene materials and our sinks are stocked with soap and paper towels.

-   Our staff reminds children they must regularly wash their hands throughout the day, particularly before mealtime, before and after using the restroom/diaper changing, after outdoor play time, and any time hands are soiled.

-   Children who are sick must stay home and parents should contact administration immediately.

-  In the event a child is showing symptoms of being sick at school, that child will be separated from the other children until he or she can be picked up. Vomiting, headache, stiff neck, or fever indicates the child should leave the school as soon as possible.

-   Temperatures less than 100 degrees may return to school once the child has been fever-free without the use of medication to reduce fever for at least a 24-hour period.

-   Having a cold is not reason for exclusion.

-   If a parent is sick or believes they have been exposed to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) please contact the school administration immediately.

-   In the event that the Virginia Department of Health recommends closure, or other action, you will immediately be notified via email and class dojo.

-  In the event that there is a confirmed case in our school, we must close for at least 24 hours while further investigation is taken to determine whether additional closure is needed.

As long as we have healthy staff and families, we will not close. The health and safety of our children continues to be our main priority, and we will continue to follow all guidance and take all appropriate measures accordingly and keep the communication lines open with all of our families. As always, thank you for your continued support.

Fondly,

Rollingwood Academy Administration

March 15, 2020

Dear Parents,

As I am sure you are aware, on Friday Governor Northam announced that all public and private K-12 schools in the Commonwealth will suspend onsite classes for at least two weeks.

Given the Governors declaration of a State of Emergency and forced the closure of all K-12 schools we feel it is necessary for Rollingwood Academy to close through the 27th of March and will plan to open on March 30th.  This was not a decision that was arrived at without a great deal of thought but, in light of this rapidly spreading virus and the CDC recommendation to limit group gatherings we feel it is irresponsible to remain open and continue to put our families and staff at risk.

We wish you and your family the best during this challenging and unnerving time and hope to see you in two weeks.

Sincerely,

Rollingwood Academy
